Our class enjoyed learning the song 'Albequerque Turkey' and singing it to other classrooms and staff in the school. I sent them home with the lyrics and will post them below as well, in case you would like a mini-concert for your friends and family on Thanksgiving! They did a wonderful job with it :)
Wishing you and your families a safe, relaxing Thanksgiving holiday together. See you on Monday, November 28th! Love, Ms. Walls
PS- Here is a class photo from today:
I want to extend my thanks to everyone who joined us for this special event today. Students and families worked together to write, draw and read in the classroom. At 11 AM, everyone was able to share a special Thanksgiving meal. I am especially appreciative of the students who joined me as MY family for lunch :) In the afternoon, retired teacher Mrs. S visited the room to read a few of her favorite books to us. Thank you, Mrs. S! It was wonderful to see you! Below are a few pictures of our day. Enjoy!
This past Friday the first grade went on our walking field trip around Laconia to visit Community Helpers. After learning about a variety of helpers/leaders in Social Studies, this field trip really brought the learning experience to life!
Our first stop was to the Laconia Public Library, where students learned about Gail's job as a librarian as well as how they could obtain their very own library cards.
Next we walked across the street to the Post Office, where we learned how mail carriers help the community. Students also mailed their letters that they had written in class a few days earlier.
After that, we returned to the library for an indoor "picnic" lunch and story time.
Then we went to City Hall, where students were able to meet the mayor of Laconia and ask him questions about his job.
Finally, we went to Bank of New Hampshire, where we were able to go behind the scenes and learn how banks operate, where money is kept, etc. Unfortunately we were not able to document this part of the trip with photographs!
We all headed back to PSS with tired feet but bursting with new information learned throughout the course of the day. Check out photos from this epic field trip on the PHOTOS page of this site.
Thank you to all of the parents who joined us on this trip and helped keep everyone safe throughout the day as we walked around town. We could not have done it without you!
*Check back again soon for pictures from our visits from the fire and police departments*
As part of our Social Studies curriculum, we have been learning about leaders in our community. Last week, Mr. Levesque came into our classroom to answer the students' questions about his job as principal. Today, Laconia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brendan Minnihan came in and met with the first grade. He also arrived a few minutes early and spent time playing with the children on the playground! Check out the pictures below.
All of PSS will be participating in the United Way's Day of Caring this Friday. Following an assembly at 9 AM, the first grade will be walking to Opechee Park to help clean up trash. Police will be on hand to assure that students know what is safe to touch and pick up. If you would like to chaperone this walking field trip, please send me an email by Thursday to let me know! email@example.com Thanks! Ms. Walls
We have spent the first few days of school getting to know one another, creating our classroom rules, and practicing daily routines such as lining up, walking in the hallway, and sitting properly at circle. In math, we have begun learning about shapes. In literacy, we have practiced writing our names, reviewing the Kindergarten High Frequency Words in addition to drawing and writing about our hopes and dreams for first grade.
I have added some pictures from the first day of school to the website. Click on the Pictures link to view them.
A HUGE "thank you" to everyone who has returned paperwork so promptly! A classroom directory will be going home in the next week. In general, the blue homework folders will only be sent home on Mondays and Fridays. Please be sure to send them back with your child the following day so you don't miss important notices (or homework, which should start by the end of the month).
Finally, I wanted to let you know to tune in to 98.3 WLNH. My friends, DJ's Nazzy and Mya, will send you a special birthday shout out around 7:10-7:15 AM. If your birthday is on a weekend, your birthday shout out should be either the Friday before or the Monday after. If for any reason, you do not want your child's birthday shout out to be on the radio, please let me know and I will remove it. Only first names are used!*
Thank you for visiting our classroom website. I hope you will find this to be a useful resource throughout the school year. Check out the tabs at the top for information about me, photos, contact information, and more!
